We who look for adventure everywhere

We're not your enemies

We want to give you vast and strange domains

Where mystery in flower spreads out for those who would pluck it

There you may find new fires colors you have never seen before

A thousand imponderable phantasms

Still awaiting reality

[…]

Pity us who fight always at the boundaries

Of infinity and the future

Public Issues#8: “these streets that we never forget”

Amalia Vekri presents in the frame of Public Issues project a series of tapestry designs, inspired by the Athenian streets during the economic crisis.

The tapestry looks pretty and decorative from afar, but getting closer, the images are not extactly pleasant:  stray dogs, beggars, homeless, junkies alongside old historical buildings and monuments.  Athens is ugly and pretty at the same time.

The images are taken from some of the most central areas of the city. Each pattern refers to a different neighbourhood.

These patterns will be put in poster size at various spots around the centre and they will stay there until they are destroyed.

The action will start on the 1st Νοvember and it will be completed by the 5th at the following areas: victoria, plateia vathis, exarxeia, omonoia, panepistimio, psirri, kerameikos, metaxourgeio

Public Issues is a series of visual, or other, presentations concerning the public sphere. Young,  artists leave their comment-stigma in different parts of the urban, European, or other, public space. Openshowstudio is responsible for the coordination, documentation, communication and archiving of their actions
