Hosted in Athens // 22-29 May 2012Hosted in Athens has invited groups of artists and collectives of different background and nationalities to present their activity in various buildings in the center of Athens through a series of events and exhibitions. The project intends to articulate and organize its potentials in the area of the historical center of Athens and to involve public and private venues that can host its program in the means of hospitality. The project seeks to advocate the local art scene and to introduce the work of international artists to the broader Athenian public. In the current financial situation, according to which culture tends to be institutionally treated as a needless luxury, OpenShowstudio held an Open Call inviting art students to respond through their work to this very question: Why art now; a question, which actually troubles the majority of creators in Greece and in Europe. The welcome to this call was warm and strong proposals came both from students in Greece and abroad. The selected participants are: Úlfur Karlsson (Iceland), Jean-Philippe Paumier (France), Martinka Bobrikova (Slovakia) and Oscar de Carmen (Spain), Kristian Zara (Albania / Greece), Vassiliki Spyrou, Dimitris Lambrou, Vassia Katsarela , Athena Pappa, Giorgos Tsakalis, Philippos Vassiliou, Joanna Gouzeli, Elias Polichroniadis, Anna Vassof, Vassiliki Sifostratoudaki. *
At the opening, Saturday 31th March, the presentations of their proposals will be accompanied by actions (performances) of emerging Greek artists. Kangaroo Court group, a collective, whose core consists of Ameladiotis Dimitirios, Simos Veis, Philippos Gkountzos, Elena Koukoli, Jordan Papadopoulos, Nana Sachini and Ioanna Stratoglou, will present an action of various expressive art forms which will interact and function as communicating vessels. In a joint project entitled “Deliver Your Virgins Or We Burn The City”, which refers to the spirit of the times, Stelios Karamanolis, Georgia Karidis and Tula Plumi are trying to approach the concepts of conflict and negotiation. By realizing combat tactics as a means of creating a shell to harden oneself, they create an ode to toughness.Vassilis Botoulas will negotiate the theme of the exhibition in an unorthodox way, in the documentary Why Art Now. People widely regarded as irrelevant to the matter, are being interviewed and offer their view on the subject. Maria Lianou will “vandalize” the outer wall of the studio drawing one of her signs- messages which are part of her work.

bound: 1. A boundary, a limit. / 2.tied / 3. to leap forward or upward; spring
(*http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bound)
Under the multiple readings of the title, “Bound” presents artists from the Balkan region. Given that the issue of ever-reforming identities is constantly present in the region -where historical, racial, political, gender, artistic, ontological terms are at stake-, the exhibition explores the interrelationship of participants within this reality of continuous flux, their interaction with and their attitude towards it. Artists from different starting points and backgrounds and looking towards different directions, each one with his/her own artistic language, negotiate issues of how to define and abolish limits, divisions and restrictions, in a direct and caustic manner.
Participants: Pravdoliub Ivanov/Bulgaria, Νemanja Nikolic/Serbia, Marko Tadic/Croatia, Ender Gelcec/Turkey, Stela Vula/Albania, Dušica Dražić & Sam Hopkins/ Serbia & Kenya, Jana Stojakovic/Serbia, Filippos Gountzos/Greece-Albania, Vasilis Chantzopoulos/Greece, Fani Sofologi/Greece, Em Kei & Nicolaich/Greece
Inter Alios:
Inter Alios is a collaborative art book. Ten artists have created its pages under the theme of 'common roots, cultural components' but also, 'the common collective consciousness' shared by Mediterranean countries. At a time when the spectacle and reality of globalization has led to the subjugation of cultural voices in preference to the fortification and preservation of national identity, the people of the Mediterranean are an interesting example where the close physical proximity has strengthened the interchange of cultural characteristics of different national identities ensuring a shared endurance and resilience and giving a distinctive voice.
Participants: Vasilis Asimakopoulos, Alexis Avlamis, Antonis Volanakis, Yiannis Grigoriadis, Georgia Kotretsos, Eva Marathaki, Athena Nicholaou, George Papadatos, Nikos Papadimitriou, Artemis Potamianou
